For this project, I wanted to experiment with style and creating a cohesive world to fit that style. I was inspired by Journey’s and Somerville’s aesthetics and story for this world.

Our story takes place in a world set after a sudden ice age rocks the planet, freezing most freshwater marine life in the polar regions. The idea for this world came from the following two drawings. The people in the regions with frozen waters sustain themselves mainly on the frozen megafauna in the ice and centre their methods of living around these fish mines. The ice has preservation properties which keeps the meat fresh and gives the consumers of the fish longer healthier lifespans.

Asset exploration: The frozen fish, the wildlife, plants, and geological structures.

I wanted to focus on shape and geometry, as well as the implementation of strategic textures.

Environments

A main method of communication in this world is use of aurora manipulation. Mediators will use powerful magnets to change the shape and colour of the auroras to send messages over long distances. This is reserved for more urgent or general information, and the magnets take great skill to operate. Mediators will spend years training as couriers before getting the chance to begin training with the magnets.

For my characters, I wanted to draw inspiration from Arctic peoples like the Inuit, Nenets, Sami, and Scandinavians. I wanted to draw from the different patterns and shapes and delineate different jobs and tasks through costumes.
