For this internship project, I worked as a visual developer and concept artist to develop ideas for an XR stage experience for my university. The university staff wanted an interactive experience to use on open house days to show off the XR technology to prospective students. Enter Ed’s Extraterrestrial Excursions, a tour led by the cute robot Ed on a desert planet with magnificent sky creatures. The tourists(the audience) are whisked away on an all-terrain safari vehicle for the (last) ride of their lives.
The purpose of this project in the XR endeavour was to create a fun stylized experience for the stage. All the other projects aimed for realistic textures, but this project’s goal was something more focused on shape and colour, reminiscent of early 2010’s indie games.
Huge thanks to everyone on the team who made this project happen, including my art director Nina Mallery.
Here is the final video version before it was sent off for shooting and finalizing with the production and post-production teams.
Style Frame and Style Explorations
For the style frame and explorations, my art director asked for two options: a frame with a more angular and monochrome style, and another that was complimentary and rounded. The first was inspired by Firewatch’s promo art, and the second was inspired by Journey. My art director and producer liked the first one and the arch element, so it was preserved for the final style frame.
